Green Career Week is a national initiative designed by Seed Your Future to unite industry leaders and educators in showcasing career opportunities and building relationships with students. Each spring and fall since October 2022, during this dedicated week, businesses and organizations connect with local schools, colleges, and universities to highlight the wide variety of career paths available in horticulture.
Whitney Hale, Education Coordinator at the University of Tennessee Gardens, has seen firsthand how transformative Green Career Week can be.
“Through Green Career Week, we are now more equipped to share information about green careers with students of all ages,” Hale said. “This lens has enriched our programming throughout the year. We now try to incorporate green career touchpoints in nearly every youth program.”
The SYF toolkit and webinars make it easy for organizations to share their stories and inspire students. Hale said SYFs resources helped her team launch creative projects like careerfocused videos, giving both students and staff valuable new skills. With ready-made lesson plans, hands-on activities, and expert insights, these resources take the guesswork out of connecting with the next generation and equip professionals to make a lasting impact.
At Bailey Nurseries, the program has inspired employees to stretch their potential. Justin Goodroad, Learning Development & Internal Communication Coordinator, said, “Green Career Week has allowed several of our staff to flex into areas outside of their normal positions and develop new skills, strengthening their engagement with Bailey and the industry.”
The future of the green industry depends on professionals stepping forward to share their knowledge and passion. With Green Career Week, making that connection is simple, and the impact is immeasurable. Mark your calendar—March 3-7 and October 6-10, 2025, are your next chances to join Green Career Week and inspire students to explore the vibrant world of horticulture.
