Bolsa Chica Conservancy

The Bolsa Chica Conservancy is dedicated to protecting the Bolsa Chica wetlands through leadership in science-based education, restoration, and community outreach. They offer internships in Education, Restoration, and Marketing and Communications. There are two types of part-time internship sessions: a long-term session and a short-term session. The Institute is a unique training and development program for individuals interested in entering the horticulture industry. The program combines hands-on field experience, mentoring from industry leaders, and scholarships for a quality education from the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC). The combination of practical experience and academic studies, over two years, prepares the participants for advanced responsibilities and promotion. ALI provides an 80% college tuition scholarship. Seed Your Future

The Seed Your Future Communications Intern will support key functions to advance the strategic plan for the movement – including creating awareness around careers in horticulture, driving engagement through the website and social media, and building the capacity of the movement.  Key to the position is supporting the value proposition to intrigue the target audience with the aspirational basis for why they should care about horticulture and careers working with plants; and why they should want to learn more. This position will be integral to amplifying the horticulture message within our target audiences (tweens, their teachers and their parents), with the goal to show new and unexpected possibilities of horticulture in an eye-catching, relatable and achievable way. The Seed Your Future Communications Intern is an internship for the movement, provided by Longwood Gardens.  The internship is based in Kennett Square, PA and will work remotely with staff and volunteers based across the country. Winterthur

Winter’s Garden Internship Program began in 1991 to help educate the next generation of horticulturalists and environmental stewards while also preserving Mr. Pierre DuPont’s estate, Winterthur. The program offers internships in Arboriculture, Grounds Management, Horticulture, and Natural Lands Stewardship. Internships are primarily for the duration of the summer and interns are expected to work at least a 35-hours a week. Bell Nursery USA

Bell Nursery is a wholesale grower of bedding plants, pot crops, mums and poinsettias. Their Grower Internship provides students with hands on greenhouse experience growing and producing plants. It is a 7 week program for individuals interested in becoming a commercial grower. Cuyamaca College

Cuyamaca College offers students a wide range of internship opportunities through their Ornamental Horticulture Program. Students have the choice to intern in many different areas such as Floral Design, Watering, Turf Management, Landscaping, Arboriculture, Grower, Sales, and more. The Propagation Intern is responsible for assisting the Propagator with activities related to growing hardy landscape plants, including trees, shrubs and perennials. The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum offers summer internships for students enrolled in a plant science or similar undergraduate degree programs. Longwood Gardens provides various opportunities for those interested in working at a public horticultural institution The Longwood Gardens Fellows program is a 13-month, residential learning experience designed for those who have a passion to lead in a public horticulture environment. Minnesota Landscape Arboretum

The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum offers summer internships for students enrolled in a plant science or similar undergraduate degree programs. Internships provide students with professional growth experience in public horticulture; encourage creative problem solving skills in public garden management issues; and give students practical career experience in public garden management. Students rotate working with landscape gardeners and research scientists through the summer. Academic credit is available through the University of Minnesota or student's own institution. Students meet weekly and work on a project of their choice in addition to working on the grounds, research projects and plant collections. The Missouri Botanical Garden’s internship program offers a hands-on learning experience for those enrolled in a college or university studying a horticultural-related field. All internships require a minimum of 140 hours and experience or related course work in the area of the internship. North Carolina Botanical Garden

The North Carolina Botanical Garden offers students the opportunity to become familiar with the flora of the southeastern U.S. and learn sustainable horticultural methods through their horticulture summer internship program. Summer interns work in their habitat gardens focusing on southeastern native plants and a variety of display gardens including carnivorous and aquatic plant collections, an herb garden and garden of flowering plant families. Interns primary responsibility is garden maintenance, but other regular activities include plant propagation and care for the plants in their nursery and greenhouse. Phipps Conservatory’s mission is to inspire and educate with the beauty and importance of plants and to advance sustainability and promote human and environmental well-being through action and research. Their Horticulture Internship is for students interested in gaining practical experience in a botanical garden setting. Interns work with the staff to plant and maintain the public gardens and conservatory plantings. The Morton Arboretum

The Morton Arboretum offers two paid, institutional internships each summer to students who are interested in pursuing a career at a public garden or arboretum. They have internships in Plant Breeding and Public Horticulture that provide students with a broad range of experiences that help shape their future career interests. Wave Hill is a public garden and cultural center that offers a 34-week horticultural internship opportunity to students. The John Nally Intern Program gives those interested in gardening, a greater understanding of the principles of horticulture. Interns have a range of responsibilities including mulching garden beds, weeding and watering containers in the nursery and gardens, and digging and planting shrubs and other plants. Winter’s Garden Internship Program began in 1991 to help educate the next generation of horticulturalists and environmental stewards while also preserving Mr. Pierre DuPont’s estate, Winterthur. The program offers internships in Arboriculture, Grounds Management, Horticulture, and Natural Lands Stewardship. Internships are primarily for the duration of the summer and interns are expected to work at least a 35-hours a week.
