Growing Momentum: Seed Your Future’s Year-End Impact & What’s Ahead

As we wrap up the fall season and look toward the close of the year, we’re reflecting with gratitude on all that Seed Your Future has accomplished – thanks to the generous support of our community, partners, and industry leaders. Together, we are cultivating a stronger, more vibrant future for horticulture.

From classrooms to conferences, online resources to national collaborations, 2025 has been a year of meaningful progress and growing momentum.

A year guided by Strategy & Purpose
In 2024, Seed Your Future completed a strategic plan refresher for 2025–2030, narrowing our scope and aligning our goals with the most pressing needs of the industry. This renewed focus has guided every initiative this year.

“In 2024 we completed our strategic plan refresher for 2025–2030, which helped us sharpen our focus and align our goals with current industry needs. We hit every goal we set for this year, and I’m excited to move into year two of our five-year plan.” – Jazmin Albarran, Executive Director, Seed Your Future

Students Are Discovering Their Path in Horticulture
One of the most rewarding outcomes this year has been hearing directly from students whose career paths have been transformed by Seed Your Future’s resources. From career quizzes to profiles to classroom lessons, students are finding inspiration and clarity about what’s possible.

“I didn’t know how many career options the horticulture industry has until I found Seed Your Future.” – Student testimonial

Stories like these reinforce why our work matters: students are finding clarity, confidence, and excitement about the future.

“Seed Your Future continues to build momentum for the horticulture industry through direct impacts on student success to engaging teachers to inspire the next generation of leaders in the industry. It's uplifting to hear from students that say they found the industry through Seed Your Future and are being supported by scholarships and internships. And you can't beat the excitement on the faces of educators when they meet other like-minded teachers from around the country.” – Dr. Ronda Hamm, Outgoing Seed Your Future Board President

Seed to STEM Continues to Grow
This year, we completed our second round of Seed to STEM, and the 2025 lessons will be available on our website by December to help educators bring hands-on horticulture to their classrooms.

2025 Milestones:

  • 1,970 teachers across the U.S. downloaded the 2024 science lessons
  • 30 new 2025 cross curricular lessons releasing soon
  • More teachers integrating horticulture careers into STEM pathways

These in-person engagements sparked meaningful conversations, expanded career awareness, and strengthened our relationships with schools and the industry.

Collaborating With Higher Education Leaders
In September, Seed Your Future convened horticulture department chairs and university recruiters from across the country to address one critical question: How do we strengthen enrollment and build a sustainable talent pipeline for horticulture programs?

This gathering marked a significant step toward coordinated, national strategy. Our ongoing partnerships with colleges and universities will continue to play a major role in shaping the future workforce. These partnerships are essential to building a sustainable pipeline of future horticulture professionals.

New Internship Guides Coming December 2024
To support smoother pathways from education to employment, Seed Your Future is releasing three new internship guides as part of our national internship study. These resources are tailored for:

  • Students: How to find and secure meaningful internships
  • Industry partners: How to launch or strengthen internship programs
  • Universities: How to make internships an academic requirement (for those that don’t already)

These guides will offer practical tools for improving early-career experiences across the industry.

Green Career Week Inspires Thousands
During Green Career Week, held October 6–10, students nationwide explored future opportunities in plant science, floriculture, horticulture, landscape management, and environmental careers. Universities and employers alike contributed to activities and programming that brought plant careers to life.

Save the date:

Next Green Career Week is March 2–6, 2026!

Looking Ahead
As we move toward 2026, Seed Your Future is energized by everything we’ve built together and motivated by the work still to come. Whether through hands-on lessons, career exploration tools, educator engagement, or industry collaboration, we remain committed to inspiring more people to pursue a future in horticulture.

Thank you for helping us cultivate the next generation.
