A salesperson works with a company to develop customers and sell products. In the horticulture industry, there are a vast array of products that a company might sell including live plants, seeds, items to help grow plants, machines, designs, etc. Like all sales positions, the best quality in a salesperson is an interest in people, listening to their needs, and finding your companies best products to meet their needs.
While no specific formal education is required, most employers look for people with training in business, marketing and communications.
